About Apple Butter
Apple Butter is one of the very first things I started cooking, decades ago. Now I am able to use a wonderful variety of apples including Cortland, Snow Sweet, Honey Crisp, and Macintosh, to name a few. It is made the old school way, slowly simmered on low heat for a minimum of 12 hours (often more) to get that rich smooth buttery texture. Seasoned with cinnamon, cloves, allspice, and nutmeg to taste so no two batches are ever quite the same. However, all are guaranteed delicious. As with my jellies and jams, I adjust my sugar amounts to taste. The ripe apples I use are usually naturally sweet and very little sugar needs to be added.
